Meanwhile, Reddington receives devastating news that his associate Glen Carter has died from West Nile virus and organizes a memorial with the help of Dembe and Huey Lewis. Finding Keen becomes a bigger priority for the task force as The Freelancer, who was previously featured on the blacklist, is going to court with a newly appointed lawyer who has promised him early release. Keen's hired crew steals an encrypted USB stick from Reddington's bank vault. Meanwhile, the task force hesitates to arrest Liz because of all the work she has done for the FBI. She intends to persuade them to turn against him so that she can claim his criminal empire. On January 26, 2021, NBC renewed the series for a ninth season, which premiered on October 21, 2021. Executive producers for the series include Bokenkamp, John Eisendrath, and John Davis for Sony Pictures Television, Universal Television and Davis Entertainment. As the series progresses, Reddington uses the FBI to apprehend enemies and strategic interests for his own personal gain.
Over the course of his own criminal career, Reddington has made a list of global criminals who he believes are acting liabilities to his own interests or to society, most of whom are unknown to the FBI, and not on the "Most Wanted" list.
